Maria Kelo, graduate of University College London and the London School of Economics, is Director of the Institutional Development Unit at the European University Association (EUA). The unit’s work focuses on issues related to higher education learning and teaching, rankings, recognition and quality assurance. She is also Director of the Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP) Secretariat and a member of the Board of the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR). She became a member of the Swiss Accreditation council in March 2022.
Before joining EUA in January 2022, Maria Kelo was for over a decade Director of ENQA, the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, as well as a member of the EQAR Executive Board in 2013-2020. In both her roles at EUA and ENQA, she has been involved in European policy making processes both in the context of the Bologna Process and through cooperation with the European Commission. Prior to joining ENQA, she worked for nine years in the field of international higher education in different European organisations and as a private consultant.
