Alberto Piatti has worked at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) since 2003. He obtained a diploma in mathematics with distinction from ETH Zurich in 2001, and a teaching diploma for cantonal secondary schools in mathematics in 2002. From 2003 to 2009, he was a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Innovative Technologies as well as a contract lecturer at the University of Lugano (USI), where he obtained his PhD in 2006 with a thesis at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence Studies. During this period, he also conducted research activities in the field of mathematics didactics and teaching at the University of Teaching Education in Locarno. In 2010, when the University of Teacher Education transferred to SUPSI as the Department of Education and Learning, he was appointed member of its management board and head of basic education, and then Director from 2017 to 2025. In 2026 he was appointed director of Research, Continuing Education, Development and Knowledge transfer at SUPSI.
