Professor Jean-Philippe Ansermet has been at EPFL since 1992, as honorary professor since August 2022. His research concerns nano-magnetism, magnetic resonance and spintronics. His long-term teaching career in classical mechanics and thermodynamics lead to the publication of two textbooks and two associated massive open online courses (MOOC). Presently, he teaches a doctoral course on spin dynamics at EPFL as well as at other campuses, which he has been developing since 1998. He was a visiting professor at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, where he had obtained his PhD in the 80s, and later at the Southern University of Science and Technology at Shenzhen (China).
Jean-Philippe Ansermet is Fellow of the American Physical Society and received the Crédit Suisse Award for Best Teaching in 2022. In the 90s, he was called to serve as Secretary of the European Physical Society, and later as President of the Swiss Physical Society. For 12 years he directed the section in charge of all physics teaching at EPFL and took part in the creation of its quality management system.
